Chemical Attack:
Depending upon the chemical content of the Drum, the Drum Top Gasket may crack, discolor, blisters or swell. Some chemicals may react with certain polymers and damage the Drum Top Gasket. It is important to select the right Polymer material to ensure the Gasket is compatible with the content of the Drum.

Compression Set or Recovery percentage:
The Drum Top Gasket has taken on permanent “set” which means it is unable to recover to its original shape after removal or loosening of Drum Top or deforming stress. Selection of right polymer material and compound with low compression set or higher recovery percentage will extend the serviceability life and avoid leakage or spillage.

Ozone Attack:
Tiny traces of ozone in the air attacks double bonds in rubber chains leading to degradation and further to deeper cracks on the surface. Natural Rubber, SBR & Nitrile Rubber are more prone to degradation due to ozone attack. Amber Group therefore recommends using EPDM Rubber Drum Top Gaskets to prevent ozone failures.

High Temperature:
Unless required in the process of Drum manufacturing, The Drum Top Gasket is often required to pass certain temperatures. Physical and chemical changes can occur to the Polymer material at high temperatures that can result in crack, permanent set. Selecting the right Polymer material which sustains at elevated temperatures will extend the serviceability life, which will avoid leakage or spillage.

Installation Damage:
Damage caused while inserting the Gasket on the Drum Top can be identified by notch or cut on the surface of the gasket. Correct methods or tools are required to install the gasket on the Drum top which will avoid such damages and prevent leakage or spillage.

Incorrect size of the Drum Top Gasket:
At the time of product selection, if one selects the wrong size of Drum Top Gasket it will lead to leakage. Please ask our experts to provide the right product which fits perfectly in your drum top groove.

Amber Group produces Drum Top Gaskets meant for the use in Food Packaging applications. Our Drum Top gaskets are tested in compliance with US Code of Federal Regulations CFR 21, 177.2600 which specify:

  1. Rubber articles intended for repeated use in Packaging.
  2. Rubber articles must meet extraction criteria in distilled water and N-Hexane.

Amber Group produces Drum Top Gaskets which are Vulcanized or Molded Joints. These Gaskets are extruded in required size or shape and then mold joint as per required length.

At Amber Group, Drum Top Gaskets are tested based on actual product performance testing, which is used to determine life of the gasket.

Food Packaging and certain content does need an odor free Drum Top Gasket, Amber Group produces Drum Top gaskets which are Odor free.

Amber Group offers Rubber Cords in FKM (Viton), Silicone, EPDM, and NItrile. Upon customer request, we can also make Rubber Cords in other Polymers.

Yes, Amber Group also produces door seals for Pressure Vessels. These door seals are made to sustain high temperatures and in various Rubbers as per performance requirement.
